Inglot Eyes

Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection..the lovers, the dreamers and me

Rainy day, not so much.  But I did get around to playing with my palette as promised.  The colours strike me as Mardi Gras - I'm a few days shy and bare no beads (get your mind out of the gutter)!

Here's how I accomplished this look:

1. On my lids I started with NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base and then followed it up with Inglot's Eye Makeup Base in 01

2. With MAC brush 217, I applied shade #46 from lid to brow

3. Again, with brush 217, I blended shade #16 from my lower lid to my brow bone

4. Then I took MAC brush 239 and applied shade #407 and gently smudged that all over my lower lid only

5. With the help of Inglot brush 8OHP, I lined the inner corner of my upper lash line and then followed along my crease and winged it out with shade # 473

6. I then went back to brush 239 and lined my lower lash line with shade #441 from the inside and worked my way out in order to create a mirrored wing

7. Last, I grabbed MAC brush 266 and MAC Blacktrack and lined my upper lash line and aimed for the cat eye effect

8. To wrap up the look, I applied individual lashes to the outer corners of both eyes

9. On my cheeks I am wearing NARS Gilda and on my lips I patted on some clear lip gloss

This is definitely a more adventurous look, but I had so much fun experimenting.  I've been wearing the Inglot shadows and lashes for close to four hours and still have yet to see any creasing.  By pairing two bases, I think I've cracked the code for what works best on me.

The Bagful breakdown:

Total amount for my latest Inglot splurge:

  • $109.50 AUS

Value for money spent (performance and quality):

  • 10 out of 10 bags - Colour me happy, this girl's an Inglot addict

Likelihood to purchase:

  • Until I really get the hang of using the shades I recently purchased, I fear that I will have to stear clear of Inglot for quite sometime

Advice...

Since starting Bagful of Notions in October, I've been asked by a few people what inspired me to start blogging and if there's any advice I can offer.  I have a passion for writing and I think I found a knack for it back in sixth grade.  My teacher, Mrs. White, was a positive force and influence; she made me feel like I had a voice.  It's important to have those sorts of moments in life, because it drove me to study journalism in college.  My background/education is in news writing and television production (media, if you will) - even though it's something I don't pursue professionally here in Australia, I'd like to think my blog serves as a medium to get people open to trying new things.  Plus, it's an added bonus that I get to talk about makeup here instead of writing about the depressing goings-on of the world.  Do not think of this as denial on my part, better yet, think of this as a healthy version of escapism from life in general.  An oasis of makeup, beauty and my inner monologue. I received an e-mail late yesterday from musings about muses asking me the following:

I'm only starting out and would love some tips if you have any??

- Kahla

My thoughts began to flow - here is what I responded with…

  • Know your audience, better yet, who is your target demographic?
  • Read blogs similar to your own for ideas and for things you might want to avoid
  • Take awesome photos - macro photography and lighting are keys to success
  • Be original in an extremely saturated market - set yourself apart from others
  • Market your brand via social media; e.g. Twitter, Instagram, etc.
  • Bloggers are always offering words of wisdom, read what they have to say about how they got started
  • Comment, a lot!  And make sure it's pertinent to what you just read.  Never go to someone else's blog and say "visit me here...."
  • Guest blog - I did!
  • Post as much as you can
  • Never give up, that's what I've been told.  It can take a while before you start to see any benefits from the fruits of your labor
  • Stay informed - read about cosmetics and visit beauty counters.  Get to know artists and don't be afraid to pick their brains
  • Be willing to invest time and money, but keep your life in mind
  • Be a cheerleader for bloggers you admire and get to know them
  • Always give credit where/when credit is due.. never claim something as your own when it's not

I have no idea what my readership is like and that's ok; I'll worry about analytics and search engine optimisation when the time is right for me.  Until then, I'll harass (kindly) the likes of KarenChristineLilitHolly and Sasha in the comments section on their sites.  They serve as a compass for me and inspire me to be a great writer.  Blog with your heart, remember that your Mom, Dad or both might be your primary audience to start and be the original drummer who goes as wild as Animal.

Inglot Swatches

After a super quick trip to Inglot a few weeks ago, I made sure I scooped up a few bright colours to play with.  Now that think I about it, my new palette reminds me of the colours found in the header. Unrealized and or subconscious inspiration methinks.  Scott waited in the wings as I narrowed down my selections; I decided to go with a freedom palette of five and threw in Inglot's eye makeup base in shade 01 in order to enhance the rainbow.

The other items on my list to purchase were false eyelashes and Duo adhesive.  Since my makeup lesson at Mecca, I've been dying to try to attempt to apply my own. I've only tried this once before and failed miserably; although, I should cut myself some slack because the lashes were tinsel-like and I was rushing to get ready for a Halloween party - never a good mix.  Since swatching close to two weeks ago, I still have yet to try my new colours.  With another rainy day upon us, I am aiming to create something beautiful and eye-catching.

Sensory Moment - what I wear

I am often asked which perfume I wear - twice I was asked this very question on Friday.  I take my perfume choices seriously and will only commit once I've tested it on a few occasions or I've taken the time to read in-depth reviews.  These days you can easily spend at least $100 or more on a decent scent and you really don't want to throw your money into the wind on just anything.

On any given day you can find me regularly wearing (not at the same time, of course):

There are a few samples floating about, but I haven't fully invested my energy with respect to testing them out.  With it being summer, I've been reaching for Sur Le Nil and Giulietta and these just happen to be the scents I get asked about the most.  I once had a woman have such a positive reaction to the former, she went and googled Hermes just to see which notes were in it.

Sur Le Nil means a lot to me on an emotional level, because of when and where it was purchased. Scott and I were amidst a post-proposal high; we had just visited the shop where my ring was purchased to tell them I said yes.  After a walk through Vondelpark, we then ventured off to De Bijenkorf (The Beehive) to try to find a bottle of Sur Le Nil in order to replace the sample I finished that morning.  I didn't want to lose the scent I was wearing on that hot July day - I was tired, jet-lagged and unwittingly ambling towards a very special spot. These happen to be the thoughts that rush through my mind whenever I spritz this light floral scent on in the morning.

I had long blond baby soft hair that would knot up from running around and playing all day.  After taking a bath, my mom would spray  on my hair in order to tame the insanity.  For me, Giulietta reminds me of my youthful innocence and the scent of No More Tanlges.

A few other favourites I've worn over the years are Burberry BritClinique HappyPhilosophy Amazing Grace and Fruit and Passion Pink.

What sort of scents are you drawn to?
